Trump Administration Criticizes Rivian’s $6.6 Billion Loan for Georgia EV Plant

(TC Tribune) – Electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive said it has finalized a $6.6 billion loan agreement with the federal government just days before the Trump Administration takes over.

The loan will help Rivian speed-up construction of a plant in Georgia in which the company plans to make second and third generation electric vehicles. Currently, EVs are only made at Rivian’s factory in Normal.

“This loan will help us accelerate the launch of our Georgia plant for R2 and R3, providing thousands of jobs in the state,” said Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe in a prepared statement. “People are incredibly excited to get behind the wheel of our new models, and this additional capacity for our mass market products is key to U.S. leadership in the electric vehicle industry.”

The money comes from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program, which set aside $17.7 billion to provide low-cost loans to make fuel-efficient vehicles and components. The program focused mostly on loans to new battery factories for electric vehicles in recent years but also helped finance the initial production of the Tesla Model S and Nissan Leaf.

The Trump team has been critical of the Biden Administration’s deal, specifically former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who said the loan “smells more like a political shot across the bow” at Elon Musk and Tesla, which is one of Rivian’s main competitors in the EV market.

Musk and Ramaswamy are leading the incoming administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Ramaswamy said the 7,500 jobs created at the Georgia plant would come at an “insane” cost of $880,000 per job.

In the past, the president-elect promised to end federal electric vehicle tax credits, which are worth up to $7,500 for new zero-emission vehicles and $4,000 for used vehicles.

Rivian said it has begun hiring for construction and management roles at the Georgia plant.

Terms of Rivian’s deal with the federal government can be found here.

Top 10 Fastest-Growing Jobs of 2025: Veterinarian Takes the Lead

Top 10 Fastest-Growing Jobs of 2025: Veterinarian Takes the Lead

(TC Tribune)— More American households have pets than children , and now, demand for veterinarians is surging, making it Indeed’s best job of 2025 .

Job listings for veterinarians on Indeed are up 124% over the past three years, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects the role will grow by an additional 19% over the next nine years.

It’s not hard to see why. The number of dog-owning households in the U.S. has increased from 31.3 million in 1996 to 59.8 million in 2024, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) . Cat-owning households have jumped from 27 million to 42.1 million over the same timeframe.

The trend is in line with other reports that have found younger generations are increasingly choosing to parent pets rather than children.

Job security isn’t the only upside. The median annual salary for a veterinarian is roughly $140,000 per year, according to Indeed.

That said, becoming a veterinarian is expensive and requires years of training. It can also be stressful dealing with pet owners in life-and-death situations, which is one of the reasons there’s a longstanding shortage .

What are the best jobs in 2025?

Indeed’s “best jobs of 2025” list is based on three criteria: a minimum salary of $75,000, at least 20% growth in job postings over the past three years and at least 5% of postings are remote or hybrid.

The top 25 jobs were then ranked by their share of postings on the platform.

Several health care roles on the human side were among the top jobs, including physicians, clinical psychologists, radiologists, registered nurses and directors of clinical services.

“These positions show the sustained and ongoing need for healthcare professionals amid the changing demographic makeup of the U.S.,” Indeed said in the report.

Engineering roles outside the tech industry were also well represented, accounting for five of this year’s top 25 jobs. Civil engineers, fire engineers, structural engineers and senior electrical engineers all made the list .

“Shortages of engineers continue to drive demand, and aging infrastructure within the United States is accelerating that demand,” Indeed said.

As for the fastest-growing roles on Indeed, jobs with a relatively low barrier to entry were among the most common. The top-five roles with the highest growth in job postings from 2021 to 2024 were insurance agents, paralegals, realtors, electrical project managers and registered nurses.

North Dakota Takes Part in $80 Million Enforcement Against Block Inc.

North Dakota Takes Part in $80 Million Enforcement Against Block Inc.

NORTH DAKOTA (TC Tribune) — The North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions has joined 48 other state financial regulatory agencies in taking action against Block Inc., a financial service firm, for violations of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws.

Block signed a multistate settlement this week agreeing to pay an $80 million penalty to the state agencies, hire an independent consultant to review its BSA/AML program, and report to the states within nine months. Block will then have 12 months to fix any deficiencies found in the review.

More than 50 million people in the United States use Block’s mobile payment service called Cash App to spend, store, send, and invest money.

Under BSA/AML rules, financial services firms are mandated to verify customer identities, report suspicious activity, apply controls for high-risk accounts, and many other things to keep people’s accounts protected and safeguard the financial system from illicit use. State regulators found that Block was not in compliance with certain requirements. This creates the potential that its services could be used for things like money laundering, terrorism financing, or other illegal acts.

“It is important for citizens to be able to have confidence in the financial services industry,” Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Lise Kruse said. “Financial services companies must abide by North Dakota law, and I appreciate the work of my colleagues, the state regulators in Arkansas, California, Massachusetts, Florida, Maine, Texas and Washington state, who led this multistate enforcement effort.”

The Department of Financial Institutions licenses and supervises nearly 1,700 nonbank financial services companies.

North Dakota residents who have questions about the enforcement action should contact the Department of Financial Institutions at [email protected] or (701) 328-9933. In order to verify that a company is licensed to do business in the Peace Garden State, you can visit NMLS Consumer Access.

North Dakota Angus Sale Raises $25,500 for Wildfire Disaster Relief

(TC Tribune) = Cattlemen and women rolled in to Kist Livestock in Mandan January 4, 2025, for the North Dakota Angus Association’s (NDAA) State Select Sale.  It was just another brisk winter day for most.  Much of the conversation was being thankful there was no wind or it surly would have made the sub-zero temps feel even colder.

This event is held annually, hosted by the NDAA.  “It’s a great opportunity for our members to showcase some of the best they have to offer, as well as for buyers to purchase top Angus bulls and females from across the state,” says Ashley Bruner, NDAA Secretary/Treasurer.

A great turnout was had in the seats and it was a momentous kick off to the sale season.  “Congratulations to the consignors and the NDAA on a great event this past weekend,” says sale manager Logan Hoffmann.  “A great sale with a large attendance in person and online, with strong demand for quality cattle shown by the high price averages that were received for the offering.”

In total, 22 registered Angus bulls were sold, averaging $8,920, and 28 total females sold at an average of $6.035.

Lot 25 offered a different opportunity than found at most sales.  “The board wanted to do something to help those affected by the wildfires in Western North Dakota.  They decided a roll-over auction at the State Sale would be a great opportunity for breeders across the state to show their support,” says Bruner. “They voted at our November board meeting that the funds raised would go to the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation Out of the Ashes Disaster Relief Program.”

In total, 33 bidders donated a combined $25,500 to the cause.  These funds will by used by the North Dakota Stockmen’s Foundation (NDSF), dispersed to applicants with need following the wildfire disasters last fall.  Application and nomination forms for the disaster relief program can be found at http://www.ndstockmen.org.

“Overwhelmed is the best way I can describe the generosity and kindness exhibited by those who contributed to this worthy cause,” says Kathy Tokach, NDAA President.

The NDSF is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. For more information about the Out of the Ashes Wildfire Disaster Relief Program or other ways to help, call (701) 223-2522 or visit http://www.ndstockmen.org.
